Broccoli Extract Can Rid Your Body of Cancer-Causing Chemicals and Fight Oral Cancer


It’s no surprise that cruciferous vegetables – such as broccoli, cabbage, and garden cress – are good for our health. Now, a new study demonstrates how broccoli sprout extract activates a gene that detoxifies carcinogens in the body, serving to prevent cancer recurrence in people who have encountered head and neck cancer.

The study, published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research, was led by Dr. Julie Bauman, co-director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Cancer Center in Pennsylvania.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), each year in the United States, over 30,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed, and there are over 8,000 deaths due to oral cancer. The survival rate for such cancers is quite low, with a 5-year survival rate of about 50 percent.

“With head and neck cancer, we often clear patients of cancer only to see it come back with deadly consequences a few years later,” says Dr. Bauman.

Methods of treating oral cancers include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, but they can be disfiguring and costly. Repeated exposure to carcinogens is the greatest risk factor for head and neck cancer. Cruciferous vegetables have a high concentration of sulforaphane; previous research has shown it can protect people against environmental carcinogens.

 Dr. Bauman notes that previous attempts to develop drugs to reduce the risk of head and neck cancer recurrence “have been inefficient, intolerable in patients and expensive. That led us to ‘green chemoprevention’ – the cost-effective development of treatments based upon whole plants or their extracts.”

Lab, mice, and human studies have been successful

To further investigate, Dr. Bauman and colleagues first treated human head and neck cancer cells with different doses of sulforaphane, as well as a control. They then compared them with healthy throat and mouth cells.

Results showed that the sulforaphane encouraged both cell types to increase levels of a protein that turns on specific genes that induce carcinogen detoxification, protecting cells from cancer. Next, in a small preclinical trial, for several days, 10 healthy volunteers drank or swished juice mixed with broccoli sprout extract.

Not only did the study subjects have no significant problems tolerating the extract, but the lining of their mouths also showed that the same protective genetic pathway was activated in their mouths. The researchers say this means the sulforaphane was absorbed and focused on at-risk tissue.

In a further experiment, the researchers used mice to see how the extract worked in those predisposed to head and neck cancer. Results showed that the mice that received the extract developed fewer tumors, compared with those that did not.

In light of the successful studies, Dr. Bauman and her colleagues have initiated a larger clinical trial in humans who have previously been cured of head and neck cancer. The participants are currently taking capsules with broccoli seed powder.

The researchers write:


”Together, our findings demonstrate preclinical chemopreventive activity of sulforaphane against carcinogen-induced oral cancer, and support further mechanistic and clinical investigation of sulforaphane as a chemopreventive agent against tobacco-related HNSCC [head and neck squamous cell carcinoma].”

Spice Beats Chemo, Radiation, Surgery for Brain Cancer, Studies Suggest


Increasingly, science is validating the therapeutic value of spices to prevent and treat disease, including for conditions as serious as lethal brain cancer. 

Modern medical science is finally catching up to the wisdom of our distant ancestors. Spices, for instance, were once traded along ancient spice routes throughout Asia, Northeast Africa, and Europe, as highly precious commodities; some of them were so prized for their life-saving properties they were literally worth their weight in gold. Only in the past few decades have the traditional folkloric uses of these powerful plant extracts undergone validation via pre-clinical and clinical research. The results are nothing short of amazing, especially when it comes to providing hope for conditions that conventional treatment not only does not have anything to offer, but may actually worsen.

There are a number of driving factors behind the increasing interest innatural substances as drug alternatives, one of which is the fact that a large number of popular over-the-counter and prescribed drugs are extremely dangerous, don’t work as advertised (ineffective), and are exorbitantly over-priced (e.g. Some patented chemotherapy agents can cost 4,000 times more than gold by weight!). To the dismay of the medical industrial complex, the public is growing increasingly aware of these facts. Indeed, it’s a problem hard to ignore when correctly prescribed drugs have been estimated to take over 100,000 lives each year in the U.S. alone.

Turmeric is one of the most powerfully healing spices known, and yet its use is still mostly relegated to an FDA-approved food coloring agent, instead of the safe, effective, affordable, and easily accessible remedy for the prevention and treatment of disease that is is. In total, we have identified research on its potential value in preventing and treating over 800 different conditions, with cancers — dozens of them — being the most thoroughly researched aspect of its healing properties.

Recently, research has surfaced revealing it may help to combat one of the most lethal forms of cancers: glioblastoma. 

Glioblastoma is a particularly fast-growing and deadly form of brain cancer which, despite aggressive therapies, is associated with survival rates that rarely surpass two years. Given the poor prognosis, and the serious dangers linked to chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, natural solutions are beginning to be taken more seriously by the conventional medical establishment. Indeed, two recently published studies provide compelling evidence that turmeric/curcumin may be a viable option in preventing and treating this deadly brain disease.

The first study, published in the journal Medical Oncology titled, “Investigating the therapeutic role and molecular biology of curcumin as a treatment for glioblastoma,” looked at a total of 19 in vitro (test tube) and five in vivo (animal) studies on the turmeric extract curcumin and its ability to combat glioblastoma.

Their literature review produced the following findings:

“A total of 19 in vitro and five in vivo studies were analyzed. All of the studies indicated that curcumin decreased glioblastoma cell viability through various pathways (i.e. decrease in prosurvival proteins such as nuclear factor κB, activator protein 1, and phosphoinositide 3 kinase, and upregulation of apoptotic pathways like p21, p53, and executor caspase 3). Curcumin treatment also increased animal survival compared with control groups.”

The authors concluded:

“Curcumin inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in certain subpopulations of glioblastoma tumors, and its ability to target multiple signaling pathways involved in cell death makes it an attractive therapeutic agent. As such, it should be considered as a potent anticancer treatment. Further experiments are warranted to elucidate the use of a bioavailable form of curcumin in clinical trials.”

From these studies alone, we can not yet draw definitive conclusions about whether or not curcumin will work the same way in humans; nor did the cited research address the problem of the relatively poor bioavailability of curcumin extracts. Moreover, in the case of brain tumors, the delivery of curcumin to the brain is hard to ascertain or prove for obvious reasons (you would have to cut open the brain or use toxic fluorescent dyes and brain scans).

Despite these limitations, a new study published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer and titled, “Intratumoral Concentrations and Effects of Orally Administered Micellar Curcuminoids in Glioblastoma Patients,” provides evidence that it is possible to get physiologically relevant doses of curcumin into glioblastoma tumors of patients via oral delivery methods.  The study used human subjects to determine the bioavailability of a combination of so-called micellar (water dispersible) curcuminoids. Specifically, the study participants were administered 70 mg of the curcuminoid combination 3 times a day for 4 days prior to surgical resection (removal) of their respective brain tumors. Tumor and blood samples were taken during surgery and analyzed for total curcuminoid concentrations, and (31) P magnetic resonance spectoscropic imaging was performed before and after curcuminoid consumption.

They found that curcumin was absorbed into the tumors. The results were reported as follows:

“Ten (of 13) patients completed the study. The mean intratumoral concentration of curcumin was 56 pg/mg of tissue (range 9-151), and the mean serum concentration was 253 ng/ml (range 129-364). Inorganic phosphate was significantly increased within the tumor (P = 0.034). The mean ratio of phosphocreatine to inorganic phosphate decreased, and the mean intratumoral pH increased (P = 0.08) after curcuminoid intervention.”

The study concluded:

“Oral treatment with micellar curcuminoids led to quantifiable concentrations of total curcuminoids in glioblastomas and may alter intratumoral energy metabolism.”

Taken together, these two studies clear the path for a better understanding of how and why turmeric extracts may help combat treatment refractory glioblastoma.

Additionally, because it is known that cancer malignancy and resistance to treatment is due to cancer stem cells, and that glioma stem cells are present in glioblastoma cancers, turmeric extract is clearly superior in that it targets this particular subpopulation of radioresistant and chemoresistant cells that conventional treatments do not. In fact,chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been shown to actually enrich cancer stem cell populations. This means these treatments may actually increase glioblastoma malignancy and can accelerate the death of patients.

Fukushima Radiation ‘100s Times Higher’ Than Reported


The environmental organization Greenpeace have released data that shows the Fukushima disaster in Japan continues to unleash deadly radiation that is hundreds of times higher than the public are being told.

The amount of radioactive substances leaking into the sea is hundreds of times higher than before the disaster, according to the Greenpeace report.

Rt.com reports:

The figures mean that there is absolutely “no return to normal after nuclear catastrophe” in the area.

On Thursday, the environmental group released a report addressing the results of the study during which scientists analyzed radioactivity levels along Fukushima’s rivers and in the Pacific seabed off the coast.

Is radiation actually damaging for you?


Radiation is all around us, but too much radiation is a bad thing. So are we all just screwed from all the microwaves, radio waves, x-rays, radon, ultraviolet radiation and even rainbows? Well not exactly.

So what amount of radiation are we able to resist? Brace yourself against radiation


People living in the vicinity of a nuclear facility live under a constant threat of leakage and exposure to radiation. The nuclear disaster that took place in the Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011 is the most recent example of the damage caused when almost negligent measures are taken to protect the people from radiation exposure.

This is why the Stemrad belt was created – to protect people from life threatening radiation exposure. The belt has been created for the first people to respond to nuclear disasters and it claims to shield the wearers from the effects of gamma radiation by protecting the bone marrow.

Usually, the employees of a nuclear reactor are the first people to respond to a disaster, and usually the number can be anything between ten and fifty. But, in the event of more severe disasters (like the one in Fukushima or the Chernobyl disaster in 1986), the first responders usually receive support from surrounding fire and police stations. This raises the number of people potentially exposed to radiation to hundreds.

In order to keep the public safe, these brave men and women can be exposed to high doses of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Normal clothing can repel alpha and beta radiation, but gamma radiation causes severe damage to the bone marrow stem cells. The body cannot produce white and red blood cells, and platelets without stem cells. This can result in severe anaemia, leukaemia, or acute radiation syndrome. These conditions require bone marrow transplants, or else the patient is likely to die.

This belt shields the pelvic area that contains 50 percent of all bone marrow with a leaden harness. This means that it cannot provide full body protection against radiation. This could be a serious drawback because some of the most affected areas of the body include the thyroid and the liver.

The 15 kilograms belt is made of differently shaped lead plates that have been layered on top of each other, with Teflon tissue in between them to allow for flexibility. The frame is covered with a fire – resistant Kevlar fabric that ensures full protection against every factor involved in a nuclear disaster. The company says that the belt protects up to five percent of the bone marrow in a person’s body. This amount is enough to regenerate a new batch within a month’s time.

The belt has a Geiger counter built in that works as a gamma radiation monitor, thus keeping the wearer aware of potential dangers through a chirping sound. It also has a cumulative dose decimetre card that displays a scale of rads a person was exposed to.

The makers have already sold the belt in many countries like Israel, Japan, and Russia, and has pending sales in Germany and in the USA. Stemrad also plans to make a protective belt for civilians that will be lighter and more economical than the regular belt. Quite recently, three noble laureates joined the advisory board of the company – Aaron Ciechanover, Roger D. Kornberg, a prominent American biochemist, and biophysicist Michael Levitt.

 

 

Can Your Cancer Treatment Be Hazardous to Others?


If you are undergoing treatment for cancer, you know the medicines and procedures have side effects.

You may worry that these lifesaving treatments could somehow be harmful to your loved ones. It’s a concern that we often hear from cancer patients or their family members who call the Cancer Answer Line.

The two most common types of cancer treatment that patients and their family members worry about arechemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Radiation and radioactivity

Some cancer patients who receive radiation therapy worry that their bodies will become “radioactive” after they receive radiation treatment. Their concern is that close physical contact with others could expose them to radiation.

The general answer to this concern is that physical contact is fine. However, there are some exceptions.

The exceptions usually have to do with whether a person is receiving external or internal radiation.

External radiation is when the radiation comes from a source outside the body. A special device sends strong beams of energy to cancer cells to kill them or keep them from growing and dividing. Small doses of radiation may be administered daily over a period ranging from several days to several weeks.  The treated tissue does not continue to hold the radiation after the therapy session ends. So patients receiving external beam radiation need not worry about transmitting radiation to their loved ones.

Internal radiation means that the radiation source is put into the body.  Some examples of internal radiation are; brachytherapy, in which doctors implant a seed, ribbon or wire that contains radiation in or around a tumor, the implant emits a dose of radiation to the surrounding area that kills cancer cells.  Another example of internal radiation is radioactive iodine that is swallowed for treatment of certain thyroid conditions.

When a patient is treated with internal radiation, the radiation source may be left in the body for a short time and then removed before the patient leaves the treatment facility.  If this is the case, the treated tissue does not hold the radiation, and so contact with others is not a problem.

The situation is slightly different with internal radiation. If you have implanted radiation, your health care team likely will give you advice about close physical contact for the next few months. Much depends on the type of cancer being treated.

If the radiation source is left in place, the amount of radiation lessens over time. However, the possibility of exposure to others is present.

The radiation oncology team will instruct patients who receive internal radiation about how long and in what situations it is OK for patients to be near others.

For example, there may be no problem with sitting next to the person who is driving you home from the treatment appointment during which radioactive seeds were implanted to treat prostate cancer. But you would not hold a child, puppy or kitten under a year old on your lap, or hug a pregnant woman for at least two months after the seeds have been implanted.

Your health care team will advise you on the specifics.  Be sure to ask your team if you have any particular concerns or are unsure.

Can Your Cancer Treatment Be Hazardous to Others?

Some of our patients wonder whether it’s safe to have close physical contact with another person while they are receiving chemotherapy.

When we talk about being safe with chemotherapy patients, we really are talking about exposure to the chemotherapy medication. For the most part, after a patient receives chemotherapy, the medications stay in the patient’s body for about 24 hours to 48 hours.

The body clears itself of the medications through body fluids such as urine or stool, so this means avoiding contact with these body fluids.  If you are cleaning up the body fluids of a chemotherapy patient, wear gloves and wash your hands afterward.

Kissing and more intimate physical contact is perfectly fine. Male chemo patients, however, should use a condom for the first 48 hours after a chemo treatment.

How To Counter Radiation With Your Food.


It has been shown that sunflowers absorb heavy metals and so have been used extensively near Chernobyl and more recently Fukushima.  It is said that Sunflower can remove 95% of the radiation in soil in 20 days where it would normally take about 30 years until radiation levels were reduced to a “safe” level.

Fortunately we have other foods we can utilise as well.

Our bodies are 50-80% water (depending on age and weight) and they mimic the ocean which has over 100 minerals composed of 80 chemical elements. Well, those are the ones we know of.  As scientists continue their research we are bound to find many yet unnamed beneficial elements.

Vegetables from the ocean also have an incredible amount of minerals. High amounts of vitamins C and E are present as well as B vitamins, iron, calcium and a high percentage of fibre. In fact, the carbohydrates in sea vegetables will easily pass through your digestive system effectively cleansing your intestines. There have been studies that  have shown seaweeds ability to remove up to 90 percent of radioactive strontium 90 from the intestinal tract. (S.C. Skoryna et al, “Intestinal Absorption of Radioactive Strontium,” Canadian Medical Association Journal 191, 1964) The sodium alginate found in sea plants will actually chelate the remaining amount out of the bone structure. This is good news for dealing with present and past toxic contamination.

In our modern world we are constantly bombarded by radiation. It is a concern brought up by many when medical diagnostics such as x-rays and CAT scans are used but of even greater concern is the radiation from our computer monitors and mobile phones since we use them continuously throughout the day every day.

The study of the unique qualities of seaweed continues. There is important work done by Dr. Jane Teasof Harvard, Dr. Ryan Drum, Ph.D. and many others in the anti-cancer research. I think it’s great to study and find out what the plant world can do for our health. It validates everything I and many others believe. I just have a problem with trying to isolate and encapsulate these properties into a pill when what we really need to do is eat our food the way nature intended. It is the synergistic properties of the whole plant that gives its healing properties. It is also the strength of our immune system that keeps us from being susceptible to illness and disease.

Iodine is a critical element found in seaweed and needed in our bodies as we do not make it ourselves. Our thyroid gland is dependent on iodine in order to do its work. Our blood passes through the thyroid and as it secretes iodine, germs will be weakened or destroyed. Thus, the thyroid is key to a strong immune system. It also builds your body’s energy, relieves nervous tension and helps with fat storage.

Having adequate amounts of iodine aids in the avoidance of radioactive absorption. Important what with the nuclear accidents that have occurred and affects everyone regardless of where we live. Iodine is added to most salt because it is difficult to get enough in today’s conventional diet. The problem with this though is that the iodine added to salt is inorganic and not absorbable. Many of us have written about the processing of salt, which like sugar, has been contaminated through the chemical processing needed to create the free pouring white granules most of us were raised on. We don’t need these chemicals in our food. In fact, chlorine (used in food processing and in the cleaning of our tap water) has a lower atomic weight than iodine and so when the chlorine passes through the thyroid it displaces our stores of iodine. As a side note, fluorine and bromine also displace iodine. Both of which are dangerous.

People with low levels of natural iodine (most of us these days) are more at risk because their thyroids will soak up all iodine they come across – including the radioactive kind. The obvious best prevention we can do is to keep our stores of iodine high by feeding our body good quality iodine.

Consuming foods naturally high in iodine before and during exposure to radiation will help prevent the radioactive form of iodine from lodging in your thyroid as well as the breasts, prostrate, ovaries, uterus and other areas it likes to hang out and cause trouble in.

Looking to the sea for some of our food sources seems like a common sense addition.

I enjoy a toasted Dulse, tomato, avocado and lettuce sandwich which is smothered with homemade cashew and sunflower seed mayonnaise. Try dry toasting sesame seeds and dulse then grinding them to make a wonderfully tasty topping over a dish in lieu of sea salt. In the past I have made the above mentioned mayonnaise or a vegan sour cream and after dipping a vegie stick in that I would dip into the sesame and dulse mixture, yum!

Another fav is Arame. More sweet than salty I will mix it into a fresh grated carrot salad with garlic that has been sauteed in olive oil and lemon juice. Simple, delicious and extremely nutritious.

Hiijiki is one that the girls fondly call worms as it starts out in skinny twig-like form but once soaked will swell to about 5 times its original weight. A little bit will do you then when preparing a meal!  It has a fairly neutral flavour so can go into stews or salads. I think sea vegetables are pretty and a great contrast in colour to other fresh food and can help to make a dramatic presentation.

Wakame has a slimier texture and is used in salads or miso soup. Fresh sliced cucumbers, thin pieces of wakame, rice or apple cider vinegar and dillweed are a lovely and refreshing salad. Allow it to sit several hours before serving as the cucumbers water will be drawn out and the flavours have a chance to blend.

Nori is pretty familiar as most of us have had it wrapped around sushi or other combinations of ingredients. We have rolled lots of fresh chopped veggies and nut and seed pastes into it. My kids will just take the sheets plain and sit with one of our cats and tear off pieces to share together. The cats love it so much we have to make sure the package gets stored tightly in the pantry!

Agar-agar or kanten, like gelatin,  is used to “set” some of the other recipes we use. It is neutral in flavour and can be used for both savoury and sweet.

Kombu is most commonly used to make japanese dashi stock, I add kombu to my beans to increasenutrition but also to make them less “gassy”. My third daughter, Nimue, likes taking the dry leathery strips and chewing on them! I’m not that game, but you can chop them up fine and cook them into your sauces, stews and soups.

These sea vegetables and more are used around the world and in many cultures.

And they have been used for centuries. Weston Price, a dentist who studied diet and health in the early 20th century noted that even the people of the Andes ate daily small amounts of seaweed.  With trade and travel it was not necessary to live near the shore to have access to this important food.

To recap the benefits of sea vegetables;

3)   Minerals in the sea vegetables are easier to break down and utilize than minerals in a capsule or tablet

9)   The sodium alginate in sea vegetables will pull heavy metals, radiation and other chemical toxins out of your body

10)  Are extremely nutritious, plentiful and inexpensive!

Sea vegetables are also considered to be easy beauty treatments. Topically there are many ways to use them and internally your hair, skin, nails and eyes will thank you by becoming strong and vibrant. Remember this, whatever goes on your face or body goes in your face and body.

Sea weed wraps are a luxuriant and popular treatment in spas. You can give yourself a mini spa treatment at home just by adding seaweed to your bath. Create a seaweed facial mask by using 1 Tbs dry seaweed powder (grind it yourself) 1 Tbs of aloe vera and enough water to create a thick paste. Leave on face for 20 minutes. This mask will detoxify and nourish at the same time.  Seaweeds are potent antioxidants and have rejuvenating properties as well as having Vitamin A (beta carotene/retinol) and Vitamin C which work together in maintaining collagen, a protein necessary for the formation of connective tissue in the skin.

So there you have it…seaweed, who would have thought?

Recipe – Smoked Tofu, Seaweed and Rice Salad

If you cannot find enoki mushrooms, fresh shiitake would be my next choice stems removed and saved for later use. Plain button mushrooms may be substituted.

Salad

3   cups organic wild rice, cooked or sprouted

1   package organic smoked tofu, cubed small

1   cup fresh organic mung or soybean sprouts

1   organicred bell pepper (capsicum) sliced thinly

1/4   cup arame sea vegetable, soaked in warm water for 2 hours, drained and rinsed and chopped coarsely

1   package organic enoki mushrooms, separated, cleaned and chopped if desired

½   cup sliced organic almonds, lightly toasted

¼   cup organic green onions, sliced thin

Dressing

3   Tbs organic red wine vinegar

1   Tbs organic tamari

1-2   Tbs organic toasted sesame oil

1   Tbs organic dark agave syrup or other sweetener

Pinch of red pepper flakes

½   tsp sea salt

1   Tbs fresh organic ginger, finely grated

2   tsps organic garlic, finely minced

Mix together salad ingredients.

Whisk dressing ingredients and stir into salad.  Serve.

Sea salt and baking soda, best all natural remedy for curing radiation exposure and cancer.

If you are having any kind of radiation treatments, macrobiotic is the cure.  Macrobiotics is very effective in curing radiation sickness and cancer.

If you are diagnosed with cancer and you want to survive the cancer avoid any and all exposure to radiation treatment. Radiation treatment of any kind is what actually kills people diagnosed with cancer.  Exposure to radiation causes a cascade of free radicals that wreak havoc on the body. Free radicals damages DNA, protein, and fats. Free radical damage has been clinically proven to be a major contributor to cancer.  That being said, people don’t die of cancer, they die of radiation poisoning.  The repeated exposure to radiation through so-called treatment overwhelms the body’s immune system. Cancer doesn’t cause hair loss for cancer patients, the radiation treatment is solely responsible for that. Cancer doesn’t cause weight loss, the radiation treatment causes that because it suppresses your appetite. Cancer doesn’t cause a cancer patient to become very weak and sick, the radiation treatment poisons the body and makes them very weak and sick.

According to Michio and Aveline Kushi, in his book Macrobiotic Diet, Michio Kushi states: ‘At the time of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki in 1945, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D., was director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis Hospital in Nagasaki. Most patients in the hospital, located one mile from the center of the blast, survived the initial effects of the bomb, but soon after came down with symptoms of radiation sickness from the radioactivity that had been released. Dr. Akizuki fed his staff and patients a strict macrobiotic diet of brown rice, miso* and tamari soy sauce soup, wakame and other sea vegetables, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets. As a result, he saved everyone in his hospital, while many other survivors in the city perished from radiation sickness.’”

In case you missed it the secret to surviving all forms of radiation exposure is sea salt. If you are concerned about the radiation fallout from the Japan nuclear plants disaster or if you had an X-ray (from hospitals and airport screening) or radiation treatments for cancer, soak your body in sea salt (not iodized table salt) baths to help pull out the radiation from your body.

If you were diagnosed with mouth or throat cancer and you were subjected to deadly radiation treatments gargling with baking soda mixed in water will help neutralize the radiation.

Baking soda is so powerful in curing radiation contamination that at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, researcher Don York has used baking soda to clean soil contaminated with uranium. Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium, separating it from the dirt; so far, York has removed as much as 92 percent of the uranium from contaminated soil samples.  Still not convinced?  Would it help to know that the United States Army recommends the use of baking soda to protect the kidneys from radiation damage.

To pull the radiation poison out of the body, try bathing in half a cup of sea salt and half a cup of baking soda. Soak for at least 20-30 minutes, every day for three weeks or every other day for six weeks. . . or go on a vacation to the West Indies or South Pacific and swim in the ocean every day for three weeks! Can’t afford to travel to the Dead Sea and cure yourself of the radiation poison from nuclear plant fallout, x-rays and radiation cancer treatment?  A tiny pinch of good quality sea salt in several glasses of distilled water each day will provide one with all the minerals and trace elements you  need to rid your body of the radiation and stay healthy.

Can’t stomach sea salt? The amino acid, cysteine also protects against the damaging effects of radiation by terminating the free radicals produced by ionizing radiation. Cysteine, together with methionine, cystine, and their derivatives, is numbered among the “sulphurated amino acids” due to the fact that these amino acids contain sulfur in addition to carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen.

Simple Steps to Help Protect Against Radiation Exposure.


Our lives are so very busy that sometimes it seems that worrying about one more environmental health threat is too much to bear.  But there are some simple steps to take on a daily basis that can help to protect our internal environment from man-made radiation.

When considering radiation exposure it’s crucial to understand the Principle of Selective Uptake, as explained in nutritionist Sara Shannon’s book Radiation Protective Foods.  Simply put, when we load and maintain adequate stores of vitamins and minerals in our systems, the unhealthy minerals (think heavy metals and radionuclides) are less likely to be absorbed. Stable elements in our diet are similar to unstable and radioactive elements, the body doesn’t know the difference at first. If we have a sufficient amount of the stable type stored in our system, we won’t absorb their radioactive counterparts as readily. Just as we’ve heard that taking potassium iodide helps to protect the thyroid against radiation, the same principle applies to calcium, magnesium and other healthy minerals that are required so that Strontium 90 and Cesium 137 to name a few, won’t be readily attracted to the bones, heart, and other organs.  There is always a point to consider where the total body burden could potentially be too high to maintain a healthy state, but steps can be taken on a daily basis to help manage toxins while we also address the problem at it’s core.

Indeed the problem must be addressed at it’s very source ~ the nuclear power industry. Radiation is not only coming from Fukushima, far from it.  Every operating nuclear reactor in the world emits radiation via planned “batch releases” as an inherent part of reactor functionality.

In addition to a multivitamin and mineral supplement, there are some other tools to keep on hand for an immune system regimen including Vitamin C, apple pectin fiber, fresh garlic, chlorella, spirulina and zeolite tincture.  Be sure to research the source by calling the company or searching online.

And last (for now) but not least, always be sure to maintain a positive outlook.  Repetitive stress endangers us by our lowering our immunity. Black Hole Radiation Simulated in Lab.


For the first time, scientists have been able to simulate the type of radiation likely to be emitted from black holes.

A team of Italian scientists fired a laser beam into a chunk of glass to create an analogue (or simulation) of the Hawking radiation that many physicists expect is emitted by black holes.

A spokesperson for the research group said: “Although the laser experiment superficially bears little resemblance to ultra-dense black holes, the mathematical theories used to describe both are similar enough that confirmation of laser-induced Hawking radiation would bolster confidence that black holes also emit Hawking radiation.

The renowned physicist Stephen Hawking first predicted this sort of radiation in 1974 but it has proved elusive to detect, even in the lab. This research group was able to use a “bulk glass target” to isolate the apparent Hawking radiation from the other forms of light emitted during such experiments.

Black holes are region in space where nothing can escape, not even light. However, and despite their name, they are believed to emit weak forms of radiation (such as Hawking radiation). Physicists expect that this radiation may be so weak as to be undetectable.
