Global Air Pollution Is on the Rise Despite Decades of Efforts to Stop It

More than 80% of the world’s urban population lives in areas where air quality does not meet standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to a new report.

The report, which looked at levels of small but damaging pollutants known as particulate matter, suggests that global urban pollution levels increased by 8% in the five years preceding 2013. That increase in pollution levels hit poor countries particularly hard, according to the report.

Crippling air pollution in a select few cities like Beijing, Mexico City and Delhi has attracted global media attention. But those cities represent just the tip of the iceberg. Ninety-eight in 100 cities in low and middle-income countries do not meet air quality standards. The number declines to 56% in wealthy countries, but cities like London, Paris and Rome still make the list of places that do not meet the standards.

“Air pollution is a major cause of disease and death,” says Flavia Bustreo, an official at WHO, in a press release. “When dirty air blankets our cities the most vulnerable urban populations—the youngest, oldest and poorest— are the most impacted.”

The health effects of air pollution come under increasing scrutiny in recent years as studyafter study has shown that the problem contributes to millions of premature deaths each year. Air pollution has been linked with a number of ailments including decreased lung functioning, asthma and cancer.

City dwellers have increasingly come to understand the dangers of air pollution, but the solutions to the problem remain largely in the hands of the government policymakers. Policies to transition to clean energy sources like solar panels rather than coal-fired power plants will help clear the air in the developing world.

Cities in the developed world have choked in recent years as traffic—particularly from diesel vehicles—has exploded in city centers. Many local governments have implemented policies to encourage walking and levied charges on drivers of high-emitting vehicles that want to enter polluted areas.

Some environmental experts have suggested that the rise of air pollution may have resulted in part from increased attention paid by policymakers to addressing climate change. Policies designed to address global warming—like incentives for diesel vehicles—reduce emissions of greenhouse gases while increasing emissions of particles that damage human health. But other environmental policymakers say that smart marketing of the public health implications of pollution can go hand-in-hand with climate measures.

“People do not understand the climate issues, not surprisingly because who does,” says Simon Birkett, the founder of the NGO Clean Air in London. “But what almost everyone does understand is local air pollution.”

5 Tricks to Get the Most from Your Workout

Great men are known not only by what they do, but, more important, by when they do it. So it is with your workout. All of us live by the clock, and in order to succeed with style, we need to sweat by it as well. We consulted the timeliest experts to help you set your agenda. Because the best time to look great and build muscle is right now.

1. Work in a Workout When You Feel the 6 p.m. Burn

The American Council on Exercise recommends working out between 4 and 6 p.m., when your body temperature is highest, making your workouts more productive. But that’s not an ironclad rule, says MH fitness director Lou Schuler. “It’s much more important to exercise consistently than to focus on a particular time of day,” he says. “Some guys can’t get motivated in the morning, and others are too burned out after work. So pick a time that’s right for you and stick with it.”

2. Warm Up 15 Minutes Before the Main Event

Researchers at the University of British Columbia and the University of Otago in New Zealand found that a 15-minute warmup at an intensity of 60 to 70 percent of your full capacity improves your range of motion and enhances your anaerobic performance.

3. Wear Cross-Trainers When You’re Walking the Dog, Lifting at the Gym, or Hanging Out on Weekends

But when you hit the long road, opt for running shoes instead; cross-trainers are too heavy and don’t provide enough cushioning to keep runners injury-free.

4. Listen to Your MP3 Player When You’re on the Treadmill

Music will motivate you and keep your mind off the monotony of running indoors. The editors of Runner’s World recommend that you never wear headphones outside, even on running paths, lest your groove distract you from potential dangers like rottweilers, traffic, and Ned Beatty.

5. Replace Your Running Shoes Before You Log 500 Miles

After that, the midsoles are bound to have deteriorated, says Runner’s World deputy editor Bob Wischnia. Most quality running shoes will last anywhere from 300 to 500 miles. Heavier guys should replace shoes more often. Lighter guys can let the mileage run up a little more. And since shoes don’t come with built-in odometers (yet), write the date of your first wearing somewhere on the inside with a permanent marker. It’ll make it easier to figure out when that pair’s reached the end of the road.

How To Refinance Everything In Your Life

Let’s play a little word-association game. What comes to mind when you hear the word “refinance”? If you answered “mortgages,” you’re not alone. A mortgage is the one type of loan that’s probably most frequently associated with refinancing. But refinancing goes beyond just helping people give their mortgages a makeover: Did you know that the concept of a refi can apply to just about any kind of loan, from your student loans to your auto loan?

Whether you’re renting a pricey studio apartment in San Francisco, CA, or a home in Richmond, VA, if you’re a renter with any type of loan, it’s worth understanding how the process works — and how it can help you.

How can renters take advantage of refinancing?
You can refinance almost any type of debt, not just mortgages. If you have car loans or student loans, for example, you may be able to refinance them. Refinancing simply means you’re taking one loan and replacing it with another, with the new loan having different (and preferably more favorable) terms than the old one. You may want to refinance a loan to get a better interest rate than your original debt carries or to reduce the monthly payment you make. You can also consolidate many loans into a single one. Any of these outcomes can make personal debts easier to manage — and therefore easier for you to repay.

If you have a variable-rate loan and long for a more stable monthly payment, you may want to refinance simply to secure terms that present a little less risk. For example, swapping that variable-rate loan for a loan with a fixed interest rate could help with budgeting. But if you’re thinking about refinancing a loan to enjoy one or more of these potential benefits, it’s important to understand that there are two kinds of refis to choose from: rate-and-term and cash-out.

What you need to know about rate-and-term refinancing
If you’re interested in refinancing something like an auto loan or student loans to get a better interest rate or change the loan term, consider rate-and-term refinancing. This type of refinancing can be beneficial to borrowers if you originally took out your loan when interests rates were much higher than what you can get today. It’s also helpful if you need to alter the amount of your monthly payment. A refi can update the loan term, and changing the length of that term will impact how much you owe each month.

What about cash-out refinancing?
Cash-out refinancing offers you an interesting option. Going with this type of refi means that your new loan is for more than your existing loan. You get the difference between the new loan and the old in cash. It’s great to have this extra money in hand, but keep in mind, this increases the debt that you carry. You’ll need to repay the entirety of the loan plus the cash you received, and you’ll have to pay interest on all of it.

Before refinancing everything, consider the downsides
While both these refinancing options can be helpful to borrowers, there are some downsides. Just because you carry some debts doesn’t mean a refi will help you manage your repayment or will save you money over time.

If you want to refinance student loans, for example, you need to remember that this process replaces your old debt with a new one — and that new loan will come with new terms and benefits. Some federal loans are eligible for benefits like payment programs or even loan forgiveness. If you refinance, you could be disqualified from accessing that repayment help.

And refinancing any loan comes with a cost. You’ll be originating a whole new loan, so expect to pay fees just like you did when you originally borrowed the money. This could eliminate any savings you’d accrue over time via a lower interest rate, so always do the math before making your decision. Refinancing could cost you more money in interest over time too. Changing the terms of your loan may lower your monthly payments, but it could also mean you make those payments for a longer time. Stretching out the life of your loan also means paying more in interest. It’s important to weigh the costs, because you might be surprised to find that continuing to pay down your current loans could remain the best option for you.

Bottom line: Should you consider refinancing your loans?
Ultimately, the decision of whether to refinance the loans in your life will depend on your personal situation. Are you doing well in managing the repayment of your debts? If so, you may be better off continuing to do what you’ve been doing to pay down those balances and reach debt freedom. If, on the other hand, you could secure a lower interest rate, get a more manageable monthly payment, or enjoy better terms on a new loan, consider refinancing. Refinancing isn’t just for homeowners, so don’t be afraid to find out if a refi could improve your financial life.

‘Good’ gut bacteria supported by coffee, tea and wine can dramatically fight painful inflammation.

In their quest to be healthy, some people might inadvertently be giving up foods that are actually beneficial for their health. If you’ve banned coffee or tea from your diet because of their caffeine content, or you’ve given wine the boot because it contains alcohol, you might want to rethink your decision, after hearing about a new Dutch study that was published in the journal Science.

The study is part of the LifeLines program, which was put in place to keep track of the health of 165,000 people who live in the northern Netherlands. In order to reach their conclusions, the researchers assessed the questionnaires of 1,100 participants regarding their diets, medications and overall health, and also analyzed gut bacteria taken from frozen stool samples.

The researchers found that drinking a glass of wine or a cup of tea or coffee can help people maintain their levels of “good” bacteria. Moreover, the gut bacteria of those who eat yogurt regularly displayed a greater diversity. Eating high-calorie diets, on the other hand, can adversely affect this diversity.

People should aim for a good diversity of gut bacteria

Having a great diversity of gut bacteria is beneficial to human health. The researchers discovered 60 dietary factors that determine this diversity, and coffee, tea and wine all played a role. Previous studies have shown that antacids and antibiotics decrease this diversity.

University of Groningen human genetics professor Dr. Cisca Wijmenga said, “Disease often occurs as the result of many factors. Most of these factors, like your genes or your age, are not things you can change. But you can change the diversity of your microbiome through adapting your diet or medication. When we understand how this works, it will open up new possibilities.”

Good bacteria in the gut helps your body digest food while keeping pathogens such as yeast in check. In addition, good bacteria can control the functioning of your organs, according to a study published in mBio.

Maintaining good bacteria key to fighting inflammation

Having a proper balance of good bacteria has anti-inflammatory effects, according to a University of California study. Researchers found that the anti-inflammatory ability of certain gut bacteria varieties can slow down or even stop the development of some types of cancer.

That study’s senior author, Robert Schiestl, told Science Daily: “Ultimately, doctors might be able to reduce a person’s risk for cancer by analyzing the levels and types of intestinal bacteria in the body, and then prescribing probiotics to replace or bolster the amount of bacteria with anti-inflammatory properties.”

Inflammation is also behind a number of other diseases besides cancer, including heart disease, lupus, neurodegenerative diseases, arthritis and premature aging.

The answer is as simple as changing your diet

If you want to add some beneficial bacteria to your diet, there are quite a few foods that boast probiotic properties. Organic yogurt and kefir are great starting points, but be sure to avoid the processed or sugary varieties. In addition, fermented foods such as sauerkraut, miso, kombucha tea and kimchi are also great sources. You can also boost the amount of good bacteria in your gut with microalgae like chlorella, which can help your body eliminate toxic elements and contains many useful phytonutrients, and organic spirulina, which is rich in protein and is one of the most nutritionally complete foods you can find.

These findings only serve as further proof of the body’s amazing ability to heal itself and prevent disease. Natural medicine has been preaching this for years, and scientific studies are proving it time and time again: Diet is one of the biggest factors in staying healthy and preventing disease.

Zika Found To Cause Birth Defects In Newborn Mice .

For a while now, scientists have thought that Zika, the mosquito-spread virus that is currently spreading through Brazil, is causing microcephaly, a developmental condition in which babies are born with abnormally small heads. But showing that this is true has proven difficult. Now, a study published today in Nature, may provide one of the most definitive connections yet. In the study, researchers found that Zika causes birth defects in newborn mice. This is the first study to show this connection in an animal model and could provide a way to study and potentially prevent microcephaly.

How Zika attacks neural cells

Back in February, the World Health Organization declared the possible Zika-microcephaly link a global health emergency, despite a lack of definitive proof that the virus was causing this condition. Since then scientists around the world have been working to discern this connection, including a study published last month in Science that used organoids, or mini brains grown in a lab, to show that Zika preferentially attacks neuronal tissue in the developing brains. That study, along with many others, helped the CDC declare a definitive connection between Zika and microcephaly.

Until now, researchers haven’t shown this connection in an animal model. In this new study, scientists extracted a Zika virus strain from an infant born with microcephaly in Brazil and injected it into pregnant mice about halfway through pregnancy, when the fetal brain is still developing. When the baby mice were born, they showed signs of cortical malformation, which isn’t exactly like microcephaly in humans, but is similar in that it is caused by destruction of neuronal development in the brain.

The study also demonstrates clearly that the Zika virus can pass through the placenta and can also be detected in the brain. Given this, the researchers think microcephaly could be “just the tip of the iceberg” for how Zika can affect a developing brain. During a press briefing yesterday, study author Patricia Beltrão-Brag said that the results suggest “that the health effects of Zika are likely to be widespread.” However, more research is needed to understand what those factors may be.

The research raises other questions as well. The amount of the virus that the researchers injected into the pregnant mice was a significantly large amount. The researchers acknowledge that right now, it’s still hard to determine what is the correct amount of the Zika virus that would mimic a realistic amount, or how that amount translates from mice to humans.

This paper comes in addition to two other studies, published today in the journals Cell and Cell Stem Cell, which also showed that brain damage occurred when Zika was injected into pregnant mice and directly into the fetuses themselves. All three of these studies further demonstrate what the CDC has confirmed: That Zika is causing microcephaly.

These are the first studies to find the Zika-microcephaly link in an animal model, which scientists can now use to study the mechanism through which the Zika virus attacks neurons during brain development and at what point it does so. It could provide a much needed method to further study how Zika is causing microcephaly, and ultimately how to stop it from doing so.

NASA Confirmation : Planet Nibiru Is Coming Toward Earth – NIibiru Will Be A Life Ending Event

What is planet X also known as Planet 7X or Nibiru and what does it mean for us on earth? Is there a biblical connection and does it play a roll in the end-times?

There is evidence of an ongoing resurgence of the Planet X (also known as Nibiru) cataclysm conspiracy theory following the publication of new scientific studies in 2014 claiming evidence of a mysterious unnamed planet lurking beyond Pluto. The scientific claims were based on observations of gravitational influences on a group of space bodies termed the “extreme trans-Neptunian objects” (ETNOs) orbiting our Sun beyond the planet Neptune.

A slew of messages and YouTube videos currently being circulated in the conspiracy theory blogosphere claims that a NASA study published in 1988 revealed details about the mysterious Planet X/Nibiru with an estimated orbital period of more than 1,000 years.

The study, according to conspiracy theorists, demonstrates that NASA and the U.S. government have been aware for decades that the rogue Planet X is coming with catastrophic consequences for humanity.

According to conspiracy theorists, recently leaked secret NASA “Planet X” files reveal that the agency is aware that the gravitational influence of Planet X had disrupted the orbits of other planets during a previous passage into the inner solar system hundreds of years ago; and that the next disruptive passage into the inner solar system is imminent.

The approach of the mysterious Planet X is currently sending waves of charged “plasmatic energy particles” through our solar system. The flow of energy will finally disrupt the “core flows” of the Earth and trigger catastrophic changes in Earth’s climate.

According to 4 major biblical prophets something truly terrifying is coming our way, and it will hit homeland before the 1st of January 2017…

We have been feeling the disruptive effects of the inbound rogue Planet X since 1996 in the form of increased seismic and volcanic activities, freak weather patterns, and natural disasters.

NASA, the Pentagon, and the CIA are aware of the approaching rogue planet. The Vatican has also been briefed, but the public is being kept in the dark about the impending apocalypse. But despite efforts to keep the information secret, there have been leaks.

The comprehensive report submitted to the White House estimates that about two-thirds of humanity will be wiped out when Planet X induces a pole-shift. Two-thirds of survivors will perish over another six months due to starvation and exposure to the elements.

Although some conspiracy theorists insist that the Planet X mentioned in the NASA files is not linked with Zecharia Sitchin’s planet Nibiru — the alleged planet of the alien Anunnaki that makes a close approach to Earth as it passes through the inner solar system on its orbital path once every 3,600 years — many conspiracy theorists insist that that NASA’s “Planet X” is Nibiru.

Warning : Nibiru Planet X ~ The Best Evidence to Date ~ A Pole Shift is Coming!

But it is uncertain whether the Planet X mentioned in the purported NASA files is the same as the Planet X that scientific researchers announced in 2014 that they have evidence is lurking in the fringes of our solar system beyond Pluto.

According to the research study titled “Extreme trans-Neptunian objects and the Kozai mechanism: signaling the presence of trans-Plutonian planets,” published in June of 2014 in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society Letters, there are at least two planets — part of our solar system — larger than Earth, lurking out there beyond Pluto, and whose presence can be detected through their gravitational influences.

According to the emerging conspiracy theory, NASA embarked on the New Horizons project two years after the 1988 publication revealed the existence of Planet X. The final destination of New Horizons is Planet X, but to prevent mass panic, NASA pretended that the destination of the space probe is Pluto and the Kuiper belt.

In the 1990s, the agency pretended it had abandoned the search for Planet X by leaking false information that the latest measurements by Voyager 2 proved that Planet X does not exist. According to NASA at the time, measurements taken by Voyager 2 showed that the alleged irregularities in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune which led to the Planet X hypothesis were due to overestimation of the mass of Neptune.

But according to conspiracy theorists, the claim by NASA scientists was a deliberate ruse to cover-up the actual destination of New Horizons beyond Pluto and the Kuiper belt – Planet X.

NASA knows that Planet X is real and that Armageddon is near, according to conspiracy theorists.

The researchers suggested that Planet X is likely ten times more massive than Earth and probably lies about 250 AU from our Sun.

The 12th Planet and its consequences

This collision supposedly formed the planet Earth, and a belt of asteroids and comets. Sitchin says that when struck by one of the moons of Nibiru, Tiamat split in two, and then a second pass Nibiru, struck the broken fragments and half of Tiamat became the asteroid belt. The second half, collided again with one of the moons of Nibiru and was thrust into a new orbit and became today the planet Earth. Could this approach with increasing changes in climate, seasons, tides, volcanic activity and tectonic activity .. . and even tornadoes struck in June now?  The stars as they approach the Earth’s atmosphere can actually cause significant changes in magnetic activity. For many years, governments have learned that a celestial body approaches (also known as brown dwarf star) and its appearance cycle is 3.600 years, clearly discussed in ancient Sumerian cylinder seals and other old documents.

US Scientist Confirms Russian Fears Of Nibiru Planet, Could Begin to Harm Our Earth this Month

A recent news that caused uproar in the network. NASA has just been caught in a lie … and things are more serious than ever!
“Google Sky has just bring up an area in the space that previously had been censored by NASA in this area was hiding what appears to be Planet X, aka Nibiru, according to recent studies, allegedly drove up towards the Earth! . ”
NASA is lying! They could be lying to us until about other events that people still do not know? The answer is yes!.

We are heading for a apocalyptic event coming from, “out of this world”, something inconceivable to our present humanity, as we have memories about it is in our subconscious of past lives and the records of several people. They say the same thing. He is the cause of so many eras in our world; as Atlantis, Lemuria and others; that humanity put on the figure of universal floods. If it was not something is very important, because NASA reproach that location in Google Sky?

Does it take Nibiru 3,600 years to complete one orbital journey? As you can imagine, the gravitational effects of a sizable planet moving close to the inner solar system would spell big trouble for planet Earth. Earth has been acting up lately with an increase in earthquakes, volcanoes, blending of seasons, and more. Open your mind a little and stop believing everything our so called scientists and NASA folks have to say. Every week NASA seems to have learned something new that was unthinkable.

What could be the most expensive object on Earth? Take a guess.

This object is going to be 18 times more expensive than the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Dubai and the cost for building it, will be a whopping 24 billion pounds.

A new nuclear power station is set to be the most expensive object on Earth according to environment charity Greenpeace.

In Greenpeace’s estimation, the proposed nuclear power station located in the south-west of the UK,  the nuclear power plant named Hinkley Point C will cost a whopping 24 billion pounds (35 billion dollars).

The proposed new nuclear plant in Somerset called Hinkley Point C will be first nuclear power station to come up in the UK in 30 years.

The plant is so expensive that it overshadows the cost of Burj Khalifa by 18 times and is going to cost five times more than Large Hadron Collider, which is the world’s largest and most complex particle collider. It will also dwarf the 2.2 billion pound cost of Heathrow Airport Terminal 2.

The environmental charity Greenpeace launched a petition against the project blaming the French energy firm for giving a low an estimate for the plant’s construction.

Emeritus professor of energy policy at Greenwich University Steve Thomas said: “Nuclear power plants are the most complicated piece of equipment we make.

“Cost of nuclear power plants has tended to go up throughout history as accidents happen and we design measures to deal with the risk.”

Hinkley Point C has the potential to exceed the costs for historical buildings including the Great Pyramid of Giza, constructed more than 4,500 years ago.

While the new power plant might be the most expensive object on our planet, it is not the most expensive in the Universe and it definitely cannot touch the cost of the International Space Station which stands at 77.6 billion pounds.
