In a northwest room the kitchen slab should be towards the west wall. We should cook facing in the west direction.

Avoid keeping footwear and broomsticks at the northeast part of a room.

If you want to have an extra kitchen outside the house avoid northeast, north and east directions of the empty place.

For school going children’s it is good to keep their heads towards east and legs towards west at sleep. They will become brilliant.

Those who are in service at police department, Home guard, Military should sleep keeping their heads towards west and legs towards east. This position would give them good effect.

According to vaastu living in south or west facing plots will give good effects.

In the houses in which the main entrance is facing at east and north, lighting of oil lamps at the main entrance will not give good effect.

In the houses in which, the main entrances are fixed towards south and west, lighting oil lamps will give good effects.

In the main entrance door, carving of flowers, figures of gods will give good effects, but avoid birds and animals.

For a south facing house it is good to fix the main door and the main gate at south east.

For east facing houses, fixing the main door and the main gate at north east is good.

For north facing houses fixing the main door and the main gate at northeast is good.

For an east facing house back door entrance will not give good effect.

For a north facing house back door entrance will not give good effect.

For a south facing house the back door entrance setup will give good effect.

For the west facing house also it is good to fix back door entrance system.

In the pooja room the god’s pictures should be fixed facing east or north.

It is no good to have pooja room at the northeast room of the house.

Making pooja room at the Niruthi (Southwest) corner of a building will give good effect. (Not for House)

Vaastu calculation will not go agree with the old manaiadi measurements / star powers as per ones birth time.

There is no benefit if the pooja room is made in a building which is not in vaastu conditions.

The pooja room fixed in a vaastu conditioned building the benefit will be double.

For the plot which is facing western direction of the road the main entrance facing north will give good effect.

For the flat house also vaastu method of construction should be followed. Then only the inhabitants will be prosperous.

If a well or bore well is dug at the direction of south, west, southwest it will affect badly and it will lead to sick and entry of evil spirits.

When there is no water in a well or bore well which is at northeast, if we close it with mud it will give bad effects.

The small parks infront of the house at south and west will not give good effects.

The parks situated at the north or east direction will be good.

Building a temple at the Niruthi (Southwest) corner is good for an industry.

It is good to have a single/double/triple folded doors for the main entrance of a house.

In a vaastu defective building, there will be theft, fire accidents, sudden deaths etc.

For the plot which is facing eastern direction of the road the main entrance should be fixed at east, will give good effect.

For the north road facing plot the main entrance should be at the north direction.

For a plot facing the road should have main entrance at east.

It is good to have small windows at the walls of south and west.

Big windows should be fixed at the wall of north and east.

The plot facing south, the big gate for the vehicle and the wicked gate should be fixed at the south east of the compound.

For west facing plot, the big gate for vehicle and the small gate should be fixed at the north west part of the compound.

For the north facing plot the big gate for the vehicles and the wicket gate should be fixed at the north east compound wall.

For the east facing plot the big gate for vehicles and the wicket gate should be fixed at the northeast compound wall.

The lofts should be built on the west and south walls of a building.

If you build the lofts on the walls of east and north they will give bad effects.

If you want to build a guest house near the empty place of your building it should be done at the direction of south, west or southwest part.

In an empty plot, it will not give good effect, if you build a building at the northeast, southeast, northwest directions.

In a pooja room, the electrical lamps are for beauty only but the oil lamps are only effective.

At the time of meditations you should be facing at the east or northeast.

To get good effect we should clear the north east room daily thrice a day by water.

In an east facing house we should keep the foot wears at the left side of the house.

In the west facing house we should keep the foot wears on the right side of the house.

For the south facing house it is go9od to keep the foot wears at the left side of the house.

It is good to build an extra room on the southwest part of the terrace and have a water tank on the extra room.

It is no good if you build an extra room at the central part of northeast, northwest, southwest of the terrace.

For school children the northeast room is good for their study.

The northeast room should be ventilated, weightless.

When you buy a plot, it should be lengthy wise at east and west or it should be a square one.

It is good to close the top of the well and have two holes on the top.

It is common in southern regions to have a well at the Nairuthi corners. It will give bad effects.

In a house the main gate at southwest (W) south, southwest (N) northwest (E) south east will give bad effects.

When you start a new construction, for house pooja make a pit of 4×4’ at the northeast part of the plot and perform house pooja, it will give good effect.

Performing house pooja at the center of the plot will not give good effect.

Counting the number of windows and doors are not important for a building. They should have been fixed as per vaastu condition.

Some people like to have single/double pillars/rooms in a building. It is good to give importance for vaastu calculations.

The vaastu conditioned structure of a staircase is very important for a house. But we need not give importance to the counting of steps of a staircase.

It is not bad to grow a single tree in an empty area of the plot.

As per vaastu all street effect will not give bad effect.

The street effect of east, south east will give bad effects. The street effects of south, southwest will give bad effects.

The street effects of west, south west will give bad effects.

North and Northeast Street effects will give good effects.

The street effect to the center of the plot will give good effect to business people.

It is good to keep the Almirah facing at the north or east direction.

When we build our houses they should not be attached to the buildings which are at the direction of north and east.

When we make building there should not be gap at the south, west and northeast directions.

If the sick people modify their houses as per vaastu, they will be recovered soon and they will lead a healthy life in future.

For south facing main door, it should be fixed at the left side of the door post.

For the west facing main door, it should be fixed at the right side of the door post.

For the east facing main door, the door should be fixed at the left side of the door post.

For the north facing main door, the door should be fixed at the right side of the door post.

There should not be burial yard towards north east, north, east of our house. This will not give good effect.

In our living area the water sources of river, tank, lakes are available at the directions of south, west southwest will not give good effect.

In our living area, the mountains, hills, sand hills are available at the north, northeast, east it will not give prosperous life to the inhabitants.

When we buy a plot/house we execute on a auspicious day. This will give good effect and benefit to the buying people not for selling.

When we build double house in a plot there should be gap between them, this only it is good.

In a study presented Tuesday at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society’s annual meeting, researchers set out to examine the effects of caffeine on a number of cognitive abilities in healthy, older adults. Their goal was to see what role caffeine could play in treating dementia.

Some current treatments for dementia focus on enhancing the ability to pay attention. Most people have come to believe that first (or fourth) cup of coffee in the morning allows them to concentrate better – but there has been little scientific study to back that up.

So researchers from the University of Bristol in England tested 38 healthy adults who ranged in age from 55 to 91. Each took a series of tests that measured different aspects of attention. Then the participants were asked to stop drinking caffeine for a week.

After that week, one group was given 1 cup of caffeinated coffee, while the other group was given decaffeinated coffee. They were then asked to perform the tests again. The next day, the drinks were switched.

The results were clear: Drinking the caffeinated coffee improved the participants’ average reaction time. Investigators also found that the caffeine improved participants’ accuracy on a test called the Stroop test, which measures skills such as planning and focusing.

The study team noted that these improvements were small, but for people with cognitive impairment even a slight improvement could make life more tolerable.

Gov’t admits rotavirus vaccine causes intussusception, adds it to injury compensation program.

Because the Obama administration quietly announced their plans for 3,400-plus new regulations[1] last week just after Ferguson erupted and just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, a lot of what’s actually going on in that rather long list was already lost and forgotten pretty much the moment it was released.

Rotavirus vaccine

One regulation worth mentioning has to do with rotavirus vaccines and a condition called intussusception.

Intussusception is a serious condition where part of the intestine slides into an adjacent part of the intestines, and it is the most common abdominal emergency to hit kids under the age of two. Usually the intestines become blocked. This results in the veins becoming compressed, the intestines swelling, and ultimately, obstruction. Reduced blood flow can actually kill the affected intestine, causing it to become gangrenous. Intussusception can cause internal bleeding, and it can even cause the intestine to rupture. Symptoms include cramps and abdominal pain which for infants seems like a colicky reaction, vomiting, and lack of appetite. Failure to catch this condition early or misdiagnosis can lead to death.

Babies under a year old are most susceptible to intussusception.

One of 3,415 new rules (which surely should’ve been in place when rotavirus vaccines first began being administered) officially adds intussusception[2] to the Vaccine Injury Table for rotavirus vaccines under the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

The rule states:

The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program allows a family of a child, a person, or their estate to receive monetary compensation if they experience a vaccine-related injury or death after receiving a covered vaccine. Currently, no adverse event is listed on the Vaccine Injury Table for rotavirus vaccines. However, recent data point to a small risk of intussusception, and the rule amends the Vaccine Injury Table to provide for this adverse event.
The rotavirus vaccine is administered at two, four, and six months of age in combination with other vaccines.

According to the VAERS Database at the time of writing this article, of the nearly 11,000 adverse events reported in children under three after receiving a rotavirus vaccine, there are 532 incidents listed where a child under the age of 3 received a rotavirus vaccine and later presented with intussusception. (Note: there were actually 542 cases, but age was unknown in 10 of them.)

The United States currently has the most aggressive vaccination schedule in the whole world. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends we shoot up our infants up with 26 shots by age one, and then ten more shots before age five.

Considering what ends up reported in the VAERS Database is only a teeny tiny window into the true number of side effects suffered by patients who are administered vaccines (as most people aren’t even aware the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System even exists to report side effects to in the first place), coupled with the fact that the government has basically been forced to list intussusception as a side effect, this is yet another vaccine risk parents need to be aware of.

The World Health Organization officially recommended rotavirus vaccines be included in all national immunization programs in 2009. Only two rotavirus vaccines are approved for infants in the U.S.: Merck’s RotaTeq and GlaxoSmithKline’s Rotarix.

This particular vaccine has always stood out as especially controversial considering both its revolving door, conflict-of-interest origins and the fact that the FDA admitted in 2010 these vaccines were contaminated with DNA from two pig viruses.

First, about those pig viruses (via the National Vaccine Information Center[3]:

On May 7, 2010[4], the FDA announced that RotaTeq vaccine was contaminated with DNA from two porcine circoviruses: PCV1 and PCV2. To date the vaccine manufacturer, Merck, has not given any information regarding if, or when, PCV1 and PCV2 will be removed from this vaccine. Although PCV1 has not been associated with clinical disease in pigs, PCV2 is a lethal pig virus that causes immune suppression and a serious wasting disease in baby pigs that damages lungs, kidneys, the reproductive system, brain and ultimately causes death. The FDA recommended temporary suspension of the use of Rotarix vaccine on March 22nd after DNA from PCV1 was identified in Rotarix, but did not call for suspension of the use of RotaTeq vaccine after PCV2 was found in RotaTeq. On June 1st,[5] NVIC called on Merck to voluntarily withdraw RotaTeq from the market until PCV2, especially, is removed from the vaccine.
Now on to the origin story…

In the U.S., the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is the body of supposed medical professionals and health experts that officially votes to recommend what vaccines will become part of the mandated childhood vaccine market. Dr. Paul Offit, who has sat on a Merck-funded $1.5 million dollar research chair (the Maurice R. Hilleman Chair in Vaccinology in fact) at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia since it was created in 2005, just so happened to be a voting member of ACIP from 1998 to 2003. He then went on to take a $350,000 grant from Merck to help develop the Big Pharma company’s RotaTeq pentavalent rotavirus vaccine which was approved by the FDA 2006.

When the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia sold its worldwide royalty interest in the vaccine, Dr. Offit refused to admit how much his take was. The income distributed to Offit has been estimated as high as $46 million.[6]

So, essentially the guy who sat on a the board that helped create a captured market for the rotavirus vaccine then went on to create said vaccine.

As Dr. Mercola[7] put it, Offit effectively used his position on ACIP to “vote himself rich.” When the good doctor then goes on to write books with scaremongering titles like Deadly Choices: How the Anti-Vaccine Movement Threatens Us All[8] and advises parents on what vaccines to give their infants, just note that Offit has perhaps one of the most vested interests anyone could have – in both his bosses’ happiness and in his own wallet – in doing so.

Keep in mind, Dr. Offit is the same guy who once infamously said that according to his studies and in theory, “healthy infants could safely get up to 10,000 vaccines at once,”[9] because children have such great immune systems with such an enormous capacity to respond to “challenges” (not that the human body was designed to respond to all these vaccinations in the first place, which is why manufacturers have to create such a disgusting cocktail of ingredients including heavy metals, formaldehyde, fetal cells, animal tissues and emulsifiers like polysorbate which have been shown in studies to increase permeability[10] in the gut and blood brain barrier).

So when it comes to Dr. Offit and promoting vaccines (and the rotavirus vaccine in particular), the phrase “conflict of interest” doesn’t even remotely begin to cover it.

As usual, evidence continues to emerge that vaccine “science” is based more on corporate greed than health…[11]

And as evidence continues to emerge that ties linking the astronomical rise in autism in the U.S. to vaccines may have been covered up at the CDC,[12] the propaganda[13] is having less and less of an effect on parents as more are making informed choices about whether or not their children should even take so many shots.

Most people don’t even know that the government set up a no-fault compensation program through a special vaccine tribunal where parents and others harmed by vaccines have to submit their claims. Did you know the federal government has awarded more than $2 billion in damages to children and adults who have been injured by vaccinations?

If you think about this entire situation from a common sense standpoint, it’s absolutely absurd we even live in a nation where the parents of children who are harmed by vaccines aren’t even allowed to directly sue the vaccine manufacturer for creating a dangerous, sometimes life-altering, sometimes life-threatening, sometimes deadly product to begin with, let alone that those parents have to wait until the government admits that a specific vaccine can cause a specific side effect (like rotavirus vaccines officially causing intussusception in official government-funded studies) before that parent can even make a claim for damages because of it.

Octopus Brains Are So Much Cooler Than You Think.

Let’s clear up one thing right off the bat: “Octopuses” is a perfectly acceptable plural of “octopus”—and it makes a heck of a lot more sense than “octopi.” That’s because the word derives from Greek (oktopous, meaning “eight feet”), not Latin.

This week’s episode of the Inquiring Minds podcast is all about octopuses, specifically how these amazing cephalopods—the group of marine invertebrates that also includes squid and cuttlefish—are vastly more intelligent than they get credit for. That’s right: Octopuses lead a life of the mind. Not that they have a brain like you’re probably picturing, exactly.

“Their brain is so unlike ours, it’s almost difficult to describe it as a brain,” explains Sy Montgomery, a naturalist and author whose most recent book, The Soul of an Octopus, is a fascinating dive into cephalopod psychology. “Ours is like a walnut in a shell; their brain wraps around the throat.”

In fact, most of an octopus’s neurons aren’t even in the brain, but instead reside in the tentacles. As a result, each tentacle can not only continue to function if it gets disconnected from the body, but it actually has something akin to a personality: Some limbs are daring, others more shy. Montgomery goes on to detail other amazing aspects of the octopus psyche, including recognizing human faces, forming positive or negative judgments of individual humans, navigating complex mazes, and opening child-proof bottle caps. It’s all the more impressive when you consider that unlike social, long-lived humans who can pick up cognitive skills from parents and peers, octopuses live asocial, short lives.

“Probably the thing that drove them to be intelligent is that they lost the ancestral shell,” Montgomery says. “Without a shell, everyone wants to eat them. They are programmed by nature to learn very quickly.”

600 smartphones of data can fit in this much DNA

All the baby pictures, financial transactions, funny cat videos, and email messages that we hoard often require technology companies to build sprawling data centers.

A new technique could shrink the space needed to store digital data that today would fill a Walmart supercenter down to the size of a sugar cube.

The team of computer scientists and electrical engineers has detailed one of the first complete systems to encode, store, and retrieve digital data using DNA molecules, which can store information millions of times more compactly than current archival technologies.


In one experiment outlined in a paper presented in April at the ACM International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems, the team successfully encoded digital data from four image files into the nucleotide sequences of synthetic DNA snippets.

More significantly, they were also able to reverse that process—retrieving the correct sequences from a larger pool of DNA and reconstructing the images without losing a single byte of information.

The team has also encoded and retrieved data that authenticates archival video files from the University of Wsahington’s Voices from the Rwanda Tribunal project that contain interviews with judges, lawyers, and other personnel from the Rwandan war crime tribunal.

“Life has produced this fantastic molecule called DNA that efficiently stores all kinds of information about your genes and how a living system works—it’s very, very compact and very durable,” says coauthor Luis Ceze, associate professor of computer science and engineering at the University of Washington.

“We’re essentially repurposing it to store digital data—pictures, videos, documents—in a manageable way for hundreds or thousands of years.”

The digital universe—all the data contained in our computer files, historic archives, movies, photo collections, and the exploding volume of digital information collected by businesses and devices worldwide—is expected to hit 44 trillion gigabytes by 2020.

That’s a tenfold increase compared to 2013, and will represent enough data to fill more than six stacks of computer tablets stretching to the moon. While not all of that information needs to be saved, the world is producing data faster than the capacity to store it.


DNA molecules can store information many millions of times more densely than existing technologies for digital storage—flash drives, hard drives, magnetic and optical media. Those systems also degrade after a few years or decades, while DNA can reliably preserve information for centuries. DNA is best suited for archival applications, rather than instances where files need to be accessed immediately.

The team from the university’s Molecular Information Systems Lab in close collaboration with Microsoft Research, is developing a DNA-based storage system that it expects could address the world’s needs for archival storage.

First, the researchers developed a novel approach to convert the long strings of ones and zeroes in digital data into the four basic building blocks of DNA sequences—adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine.

“How you go from ones and zeroes to As, Gs, Cs, and Ts really matters because if you use a smart approach, you can make it very dense and you don’t get a lot of errors,” says coauthor Georg Seelig, an associate professor of electrical engineering and of computer science and engineering. “If you do it wrong, you get a lot of mistakes.”

The digital data is chopped into pieces and stored by synthesizing a massive number of tiny DNA molecules, which can be dehydrated or otherwise preserved for long-term storage.


The University of Washington and Microsoft researchers are one of two teams nationwide that have also demonstrated the ability to perform “random access”—to identify and retrieve the correct sequences from this large pool of random DNA molecules, which is a task similar to reassembling one chapter of a story from a library of torn books.

To access the stored data later, the researchers also encode the equivalent of zip codes and street addresses into the DNA sequences. Using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques—commonly used in molecular biology—helps them more easily identify the zip codes they are looking for. Using DNA sequencing techniques, the researchers can then “read” the data and convert them back to a video, image, or document file by using the street addresses to reorder the data.

Currently, the largest barrier to viable DNA storage is the cost and efficiency with which DNA can be synthesized (or manufactured) and sequenced (or read) on a large scale. But researchers say there’s no technical barrier to achieving those gains if the right incentives are in place.

Advances in DNA storage rely on techniques pioneered by the biotechnology industry, but also incorporate new expertise. The team’s encoding approach, for instance, borrows from error correction schemes commonly used in computer memory—which hadn’t been applied to DNA.

“This is an example where we’re borrowing something from nature—DNA—to store information. But we’re using something we know from computers—how to correct memory errors—and applying that back to nature,” says Ceze.

Cognitive scientists discover new perceptual illusion

Fingers are a human’s most important tactile sensors, but they do not always sense accurately and can even be deceived. Researchers at the Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) of Bielefeld University demonstrated this in a new study in which they ‘outwit’ human perception. Test subjects placed their index finger in an apparatus and touched an object whose softness changed at random without the person noticing. While touching the object, the test subjects were under the illusion that it was the position of their finger that changed, not the softness of the object. The curious thing here was that the test subjects felt an “illusory” finger displacement, much larger in extent than the actual, “real” displacement. The researchers published their findings this Thursday, 7 April in the scientific journal Current Biology.

 Developing a virtual sense of touch is the long-term aim of Professor Dr. Marc Ernst, who headed the Cognitive Neurosciences research group in Bielefeld until the end of March 2016. On the EU research project “WEARHAP,” Ernst is working with colleagues from all around Europe to achieve this goal. “We now have a better understanding of how we can virtually convey the impression of whether an object feels soft or hard,” explains the neuroscientist. “In the future, this should help in developing a virtual sense of touch with which one can ‘touch’ things across distances, such as how a sweater or another product feels while shopping online.””A fundamental question in this project is what role haptic stimuli play in perception,” says Ernst. With the term ‘haptic stimuli,’ the cognitive scientist is referring to the sensations that arise from touch. “A special feature of our finger pads is that they are fleshy – they can ‘deform’ by giving way when touching something,” says Marc Ernst. For instance, when a person touches a sponge, she feels its composition and consistency through the tactile sensors in her skin.

For their experiment, the researchers constructed an apparatus at the end of which an elastic fabric strap was stretched horizontally. The tightness of the strap was adjustable. The test subject laid her hand and lower arm in the guiding casing of the apparatus. The person was instructed to say when they thought their finger was bent more. In reality, the position of the finger did only change a little – only the tightness of the elastic band did. “Astonishingly, all study participants estimated their finger to be most bent when the elastic band was loose. This is apparently because the loose band has comparatively more contact area with the skin,” explains Dr. Alessandro Moscatelli, who performed the experiment.

“The key here is how much surface area of the object comes into contact with our skin. The greater the area of contact, the closer the seems to be, and therefore, the more the finger appears to be bent. Why is this finding significant? “If we were not to know exactly how our body is positioned, we would not be able to grasp or catch, and therefore could not interact with objects or other people,” explains Marc Ernst.
